Tombs and Tango

hola! today we visited the Cemetario de la Recoletta where many of the countries most affluent people are buried. talk about real estate! these tombs are massive, like little one-bedroom or studio apartments of marble and bronze, with a lifetime maintenance fee! :)

most famous is probably eva peron, aka "Evita" - yes, Madonna's movie. her tomb says, "no me llores" or "don't cry for me" - if you didn't put two and two together (start humming tune now...). :)

Look, it's "VILLANUEVA" - Mom, check it out, a doctor in Buenos Aires. Are we related?

it's a little spooky, in a wind-y maze. wouldn't really want to be alone. you can see some coffins through glass. some very dramatic statues. some tombs not kept so well, gives off a "pet cematery" vibe like the dead person left grave...good thing it closes before the sun goes down.

I finally got Shannon to go to a Tango show and after much research, decided that El Querandi, was the one to see! Wonderful show, awesome LIVE music and good tango-dancing. Did you know that the Tango was a dance born in the brothels of Buenos Aires? Didn't think so...
